LASER L.A.N.A.P.™

L.A.N.A.P.™ is the only protocol approved by the FDA for Periodontal Disease. There is no other laser protocol approved by the FDA for this use.

L.A.N.A.P. laser treatment of Periodontal Disease by Periodontist in Palo Alto or Monterey CA

Advantages of Laser Therapy

  • L.A.N.A.P.™ – Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure
  • No cutting and no sewing. To patients this means less pain, less bleeding, less swelling, less tissue removal, and less recovery time. Treatment is usually done in about 2 hours, so you can get on with your life!
  • The laser periodontal therapy removes ONLY the diseased tissue
  • There is minimal gum shrinkage after surgery, resulting in less root exposure. Teeth will not appear longer.

There is little or no increase in sensitivity to cold and heat due to less root exposure.

How L.A.N.A.P.™ Works

Dr. Pechak uses a laser light to gently remove harmful bacterial and diseased tissue from the gum pocket. This allows the body to heal naturally so that the health of the gum pocket improves and the teeth become more stable.

First the probe shows excessive pocket depth. The laser light kills bacteria and diseased tissue. Then an ultrasonic scaler uses sound waves to break up and loosen tartar around the teeth. The laser finishes debriding the pocket and allows for new bone growth. The tissue is then compressed against the root surface with a clear mouth guard and a stable fibrin clot is formed.

Therapy Benefits

WHY IS Laser ANAP with PerioLase better for the treatment of gum disease?

  • L.A.N.A.P.™ is about as easy as erasing a blackboard — there’s no cutting and no suturing.
  • There is much less discomfort with L.A.N.A.P.™ than with standard surgery -- during and after the procedure.
  • lanap laser surgery
  • It takes less time than traditional surgery. Full mouth treatment only takes two 2‑hour visits to the periodontist and two follow up visits. Traditional surgery requires four sessions of about one hour each, with subsequent visits for suture removal and additional check‑ups.

  • L.A.N.A.P.™ gives better, longer‑lasting results. In fact, 98% of L.A.N.A.P.™ treated patients remain stable after five years, while only 5% reportedly remain stable after conventional gum surgery.
  • Your periodontist will probably recommend a soft diet for several days, and common sense should prevail, but in most cases, patients feel good enough to return to their usual diet very soon

.
  • Following traditional surgery, recovery can take between to 2‑4 weeks during which patients can experience considerable pain and swelling, where they may be restricted to liquid or soft diets.
  • There is a less than 24 hour recovery period, so you won't lose time from work.

L.A.N.A.P.™ is safe for patients with health concerns such as diabetes, HIV, hemophilia, or those taking medications such as Plavix or aspirin.

Dr. Bloore explains the L.A.N.A.P.™ procedure:

Dawn Bloore , DDS, is a practicing California dentist. She is the VP, training director for the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry and a Certified Laser Instructor at Millennium Dental Technologies, (the manufacturer of the PerioLase™ the only laser designed especially for the L.A.N.A.P.™ protocol). She is a fourth generation dentist who attended Loyola Marymount University and UCLA School of Dentistry.

Will My Insurance Cover It?

If your insurance company provides coverage for conventional gum surgery, it probably will reimburse for L.A.N.A.P.™. We can help you understand your financial responsibility for L.A.N.A.P.™ and also provide you with financing solutions when you come in for your initial consultation.
